WHAT I OFFER FOR YOU
Therapies & Treatments
Life transitions are a natural part of life, and it does not matter if it is a positive or negative transition, these can still be stressful. Different types of life transitions range from, a change in school/grade, loss of friends or family members, divorce or separation, job transitions, moving, marriage, etc. If you have recently experienced a change in your life, and are feeling overwhelmed, we can work together to cope with these challenges.
Trauma is a first hand experience or witnessing or being a part of something dangerous, threatening or scary. Trauma can be a one-time event or complex (happen repeatedly over a span of time). Trauma can range anywhere from emotional, verbal, financial and sexual abuse to being in a war, seeing a horrible car crash, constant medical problems, etc. Everyone copes with trauma differently. In therapy, the primary goal is that we cultivate safety and trust in order to process, work through this pain so that you can move forward from your trauma.
When experiencing difficult emotions, we often want to escape them. We seek out ways to avoid the pain and find something that feels controllable and manageable. Food is often your worst enemy but it can also feel like your savior when everything feels like it is too much to handle. You’ve come to rely on food, whether you are eating too much or too little and you might think “I just want to eat like a normal person”. Unfortunately, we know that this cycle does not work in the long run. We can collaborate in therapy to help you to have a loving relationship with food.

We live in a digital age where most of us couldn’t get through an hour without our smartphone and the internet. We all have welcomed technology into so many areas of our life and it has so many positive benefits in our life. Online therapy has offered so many benefits as you can do it from anywhere at any time of the day. I am available for online therapy in order to best meet the needs of my clients.
In individual therapy, clients work one-on-one with me in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment, and work collaboratively to reach the client’s goals. At Drascounseling, PLLC I work from a variety of modalities, including cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, trauma informed care, motivational interviewing and a solution focused approach.
In family therapy, the focus is to align families with different styles by modeling effective communication. Treatment can help provide structure, build confidence, and improve relationships, as well as helping clients to gain a better understanding of how their behavior impacts others.
TESTIMONIALS
What Clients Say
“Dr. Student has had a tremendously positive impact on my life in the short 6 months that I have been seeing her. Whether I come into a session with a lot to talk about, or nothing, she has a way of asking reflective questions that make me articulate my fears and anxieties, recognize what’s holding me back, and come to terms with what is out of my control. Her balance of kindness and compassion, while asking to-the-point questions, make it easy to open up and work through my thoughts and feelings out loud. I come out of each session feeling lighter, having expressed what I am feeling, and strategized how to address the root cause. I am extremely thankful to have found Dr. Student at a time when I was feeling very low, and although I still have a lot of work to do, I come out of each session feeling like I’ve made progress! Thank you Amanda”
“I am so incredibly thankful for Amanda coming into my life over the past year. She has played an integral part in helping me through my profound grief and anxiety. I connected with her immediately…she listens, is compassionate and offers extremely helpful advice. Her guidance and perspective has gotten me through the worst days of my life. She’s been very accessible and accommodating and I really look forward to speaking to her every week. Amanda has truly been a blessing to me!”
“My son is 9 year old and has a gifted therapist – She has many gifts but the most valuable one is she was able to reach my son and he is totally comfortable with her and quickly opened up to her. ‘Mom, she is terrific. I love talking with her and feel I can try to conquer the issues I struggle with, I am so lucky mom.’ I would never hesitate to recommend her services. In a ranking from 1-10, ten being the highest, Dr Amanda Student would receive a score of 11.”
